It was a fine day for the Brawlers. After a great Semi-final the final went well at the start again. In the 5th inningthe Brawlers were ahead with 6 runs. But UCD managed to get
their act together and gained 5 runs at the bottom of the 7th inning with bases loaded. Fortunately for the Brawlers we had Damn Super Chris catching the ball in the outfield
making the 3th out and winning the game. Great day Brawlers and go for the Cup next year!!!

Plate Semi final: Belfast Brawlers v's Castleknock Wildcats

After some postponed games it was finally time to play the Semi-final on Sunday 05-Oct. The games were played in Castleknock and we got one of the last great days of this summer. The Brawlers had a fantastic start with the bats hitting very well. The final score was 34-14 for the Brawlers which took us to the Final. Yeah Baby!!!! |
Plate Round 2: Belfast Brawlers v's Dublin Bay Packers
| Sibling rivalry was postponed due to the unavailability of the Dublin Bay Packers for the semi-finals on Sept 6th. This put the Belfast Brawlers through to the Semi-finals of the Plate. Good Luck team! Lets hope some teams show up this year. |
Plate Round 1: Belfast Brawlers get a 'bye' to Round 2 of the Plate
Cup Round 1: Shutout 7 Marlay vs. Belfast Brawlers [9-8]

The season has well and truly started softball fans! The Brawlers played the first round of the Brian Walshe Cup/Plate Bowl competition last Sunday in Marlay Park, Dublin. And what a game day - the sun blazing hot on a glorious May day In the Brawlers unique style, they created a sense of ease in their opposition by letting them get 3 quick outs in the 1st inning and they sneaked ahead by 1 (1-0). In the 2nd, Damian got a nice second base hit and got home off Etain and Maarten's bats. Whilst Carrie reached second in a collision with the Shutout 7 short stop. Ow! Great pitching by Maarten and infielding by Lauren (1B) and Conor (SS) closed the second inning with a (1-1) tie. A sign of things to come. The third inning showed the true colours of the division 1 team-Shutout 7, as they shut us out at bat and then scored 4 runs, bringing the game to (5-1). The 4th & 5th inning I won't discuss but lets just say we were leading Shutout 7 into a false sense of security as they were sitting on a 6 run lead (6-1) . Our hits got us on base but we just weren't getting through the shutout defense. But they only got one run passed the Myles & Etain chemistry duo. In the sixth inning, we woke up and conor 'precious' opened up the inning getting to 1st, Lauren (forgetting to provide hubby with some suntan lotion who was busy catching balls in the outfield) sent him to second and then Damian brought them both home on a 3rd base hit. Carrie then got home on a nice hit by Malachy and a whopper by Myles. This ended the sixth inning on a surprise 6-5 score. It was all to play for in the 7th. The 7th inning started with Brawlers on bat and slightly pink from too much sun, Nicky up first got to 1B, Conor got 1B but Nicky was caught out going to 2nd. Lauren made nice contact sending Conor home as she got to first base - ooooh tied game. Nick got a base hit, Etain got a base hit but Lauren got out on way to 2nd. Tied game 2 outs and Shutout 7 still to bat. But then we break ahead as Maarten gets a base hit, Nick home and Etain to 3rd. Carrie gets a base hit, bringing Etain home and Maarten to 2nd. Stevie bats and Maarten is the 3rd out on force to 3rd. The bottom of the 8th sees Shutout 7 up to bat with the Brawlers in the lead by (6-8). But they get 2 runs passed us on some big hits a fluff by Carrie in LC as a lovely hit off the shortstop hits the tip of the glove. Yes -Its a tied ball game. The 8th inning -sends the game and this report -into an epic story. Great defense on both teams with some particularly great catches by Chris in RF and infield defense sees the game tied at the end of the 8th inning. Despite good base hitting by Nicky, Chris & Conor And we enter the 9th inning - tired, sunburnt. Nick batted first getting caught out. Etain got a base hit, Maarten batted and all hell broke loose. Etain got to 2nd but was tagged by an empty glove but thought she was out as did all the Brawlers the ref called 'safe' did he? She left the base so Maarten overtook her the 2nd baseman through to first and got an overthrow. Ahh! whats goin' on. The ref called a strong call sent Etain out not for the tag but for being overtaken and Maarten got to third by the overthrow or his own run. I really don't know. So we had 2 outs and Maarten on first, but then Carrie got up to bat and made contact but was caught out by SS. It was now up to the Brawlers to shutout the shutouts'. But despite all our defense and the fresh legs in this inning we let a run come home. Game over 9-8 to the Shutout 7. Well done! Whilst it was a long trip to make, we got our moneys worth as the game was the longest in our very short history of playing ball. A great start to the season guys, we stood our own against this Division 1 team. Thanks to our supports and the great score keeping! Also to Marlay for letting us play with their soft-toss machine and Steven Trundle and Julie Walsh for giving us a serious crash course in detailed rules of the game.
